Indeed I've been watching very closely the new updates to the YAML frontmatter. At the moment it is still in its infancy but it has great potential.

My only problem with it at the moment is that it's not easy to handle lists and there's not that many tools for converting between the two styles.

My advice for the moment would be to make a template with YAML rather than dataview queries if you are starting from scratch.
